Poker & Travel Guide
The Philippines , and specifically Manila, is one of Asia‘s most vibrant poker capitals, famous for its “Filipino hospitality,” tropical climate, and excellent value-for-money services. For poker players, Manila is synonymous with “non-stop action,” where cash game tables and tournaments run 24/7 every day of the week.
Official Poker Guide (Rules, Structures)
PokerStars Live events follow strict and consistent PSLive rules to ensure the highest standards of game integrity. While the full rulebook is extensive, here are the key “Must-Know” rules for players attending the Manila Super Series 23:
- Big Blind Ante Format: Most tournaments utilize the Big Blind Ante format. The player in the Big Blind posts the Ante for the entire table. If a player is short on chips, the Big Blind is posted first before the Ante.
- Shot Clock (Action Clock): Expect the use of Action Clocks (typically 30 seconds per decision) in High Roller events and the deeper stages of the Main Event to maintain a good pace of play.
- Electronic Devices: The use of solvers or GTO charts is strictly prohibited in the tournament area. Players may not use mobile phones while in a hand, and devices must not be placed on the table rail (cushion).
- Immediate Seating: When moving tables, players must take their new seat immediately. Lingering to avoid blinds is monitored and may result in penalties.
- Language: English is the only allowed language at the table while a hand is in progress.

- Payment Methods: Cash (PHP) is accepted on-site, as well as credit cards and casino chips in certain cases. Foreign currency exchange is available directly at the casino Cage at competitive rates.
Destination Guide & Must See
Okada Manila is not just a casino but a 44-hectare integrated resort on the shores of Manila Bay (“Entertainment City”). The venue itself is an attraction, famous for the world’s largest multicolor dancing fountain (The Fountain).
- About the City: Parañaque and Pasay City (parts of Metro Manila) are hubs of modern entertainment, filled with luxury hotels, shopping malls (e.g., SM Mall of Asia), and nightlife.
- MUST SEE:
- The Fountain (Okada): A free water show every evening.
- Intramuros: The historic walled city of Manila featuring Spanish colonial architecture, just 20-30 minutes away by taxi.
- SM Mall of Asia: One of the world’s largest malls, located right on the waterfront with countless restaurants and entertainment options.
- Accommodation: The most convenient choice is the Okada Manila Hotel itself, but the nearby Kingsford Hotel and Savoy Hotel offer more affordable alternatives.
Travel Essentials
Traffic in Manila can be chaotic, so planning is crucial.
- Airport Transfer: Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) is just 10-15 minutes from Okada Manila (depending on traffic). The safest and most convenient way to travel is using the Grab app (the local equivalent of Uber) or yellow airport taxis. Expect to pay around 300-500 PHP.
- Transportation: We recommend using exclusively Grab for travel within the city. Avoid unofficial “white” taxis, which often overcharge tourists.
- Safety: Okada Manila and the casino district (Entertainment City) are extremely safe with high police visibility. At night, avoid unlit, deserted streets outside tourist zones.
- Finance: The official currency is the Philippine Peso (PHP). ATMs are plentiful within the casino area, but it is advisable to exchange a small amount at the airport upon arrival.
