Hong Kong’s Ka Chun Yuan Tops Flight B Counts in TWD 70,000,000 Guaranteed Main Event

Flight B of the TWD 55,000 APT Main Event during the APT Taipei 2025 Series has just concluded here inside the magnificent Red Space venue here in Taipei, Taiwan. After ten levels of intense poker action, 222 players of the 506 entries managed to secure their place on Day 2 of this prestigious event that boasts a TWD 70,000,000 guaranteed prize pool.

So far, with half of the opening flights already finished, the total number of entries so far stands at 1,511. There were 541 entries into the opening flight, along with 506 that took to the baize today. Combined with the 466 OnLine entries, make this years Main Event on track to smash the guarantee, and make new APT records.

Ending at the summit of the chip counts is APT regular Ka Chun Yuan, who narrowly obtained a chip lead at the end of the night with a stack of 260,000 chips. Yuan has been a regular at the APT circuit for many years, and has experienced a lot of success; his biggest career live cash to date came just over a year ago here in Taipei, as he took down the APT National Cup for $71,657. Primarily a PLO cash game player, Yuan has showed he is able to adapt comfortably to NLHE tournaments.

Hot on Yuan's heels is Boon Leong Tan of Malaysia, with a stack of 254,600 chips, which is less than one big blind than the chip leader. Rounding out the podium positions is Taiwan's own Hung Han Chen, who finished the day with 241,200 chips. Both of whom have put themselves in a great position to make a deep run in this event.

Another notable name making it through was Christopher Park. Park finished seventh in the APT Super High Roller yesterday, a result that would have felt disappointing despite banking over $50,000, given he entered the final table with a commanding chip lead. However, he has bounced back immediately, bagging an above-average stack of 125,600 to take into Day 2. Park will be aiming to reach another final table here at the APT Taipei series when play resumes on Saturday, May 3.

Some other notable names to maneuvered their way through the field today include Malaysia's Shyh Chyn Lim (179,100), Taago Tamm (157,000), APT regular Robert Nemeskeri-Kiss (149,500), Andres Vasquez (140,800), two-time APT title holder Gab Yong Kim (127,900), and Tarmo Tammel of Estonia (95,000).

Tomorrow the final two flights of the Main Event kick off, with Flight C starting at 11am, with the final flight, Flight D, taking place at 6pm. They both feature a slightly different structure to todays proceedings, as there will be six turbo 30-minute levels, followed by four 45-minute levels. These will be the last chance players have to accumulate a big stack to take into Day 2, which takes place on Wednesday, April 30 at 11:15am. However, late registration remains open until the start of Day 2, so anyone wanting to jump in at the last minute will have the opportunity to do so.

Lai Gets Rewarded for the Right Call

The action folded around to Chi Ho King Lai, who raised to 3,000 from the cutoff. Both Tharit Nanthana and Chun Yan Wong called from the blinds.

The flop fell 9♣ A♦ K♦ , and after a two checks, Lai continued for 4,500. Nanthana responded with a check-raise to 12,500, which Lai called, while Wong got out of the way.

On the 5♣ turn, Nanthana moved all in for around 60,000. After a long tank and several glances at his cards, Lai found the call.

Cheung Turns Two-Pair

Siddharth Karia opened to 3,100 in middle position and got called by the big blind Chung Cheung. Both men saw the flop which dropped Q♦ 7♥ 5♦ .

Cheung checked giving Karia the opportunity to continue with another 3,000. Cheung initially looked like he was going to fold but opted to call instead.

The 2♣ turn dropped and Karia maintained the pressure with an 8,500 bet. Unfazed, Cheung made the call once again. Karia, was visibly perplexed and wondered what Cheung could possibly have after the big blind led out with 15,500 on the river 9♠ . Unable to let go of his hand, Karia called.

Cheung tabled Q♥ 2♥ for a turned two-pair. Karia, mucked his hand disgusted as the dealer shipped the chips towards Cheung's direction.

Sawairi Bows Out After Vasquez Pressure

Tam Relentless Pressure Pushes Li Out

On a thrilling flop of Q♣ K♦ 8♥ and a pot already at 3,000, Jun Li on the button fired 2,000, but Tung Man Tam in the big blind wasn’t backing down, raising to put the pressure on with a 5,000 bet. Li called, eager to see what the next street would bring.

The tension built on the turn as the 8♠ hit the board. Tam fired 6,500, and Li, refusing to back off, check-called, staying in the game. But Tam wasn’t done yet. When the river dropped, Li checked, and Tam fired a relentless 7,500 into the pot, pushing Li to the edge.

Frustrated and unable to handle the heat, Li finally tossed his cards into the muck, conceding the pot to Tam.

The hand was picked up by Won Yebin in the hijack, with a 2,500 raise. Po Wen Fang responded by three-betting to 8,000, which Yebin called.

Fang continued to show strength on the 5♥ A♥ 5♣ flop with a 4,000 bet, which was again called by Yebin.

Fang slowed down his pace on the 6♥ turn; at which point Yebin fired off a huge 16,000 bet into the middle, which Fang eventually called.

The dealer showed the 2♣ on the river, leading to another check from Fang. At this point Yebin shoved his entire 20,000 stack, and Fang lingered on the decision for a healthy amount of time before eventually relinquishing the pot to Yebin.

Leaving him with no choice, Nakada pushed all-in for 15,000. Drobin snap-called and immediately tabled his hand to the frustration of Nakada, as the end of his tournament life loomed over his head.

Cooler Flop Sees Kaewsaikao Hit the Rail

Methuz Kaewsaikao began the action with a 2,000 raise from the hijack. Chung Yi Ho responded with a 7,000 three-bet from the button. After the blinds folded, Kaewsaikao called.

After the 5♣ T♣ J♦ flop came down, Kaewsaikao checked and Ho bet 6,000. Kaewsaikao pondered for a minute before shoving for around 40,000. Ho called and they flipped their cards.

On a flop of 7♠ T♣ 8♣ with around 8,000 already in the pot, Takeo Kimura led out for 2,400 from middle position after Chien Hsun Wang, under the gun, checked. But Laitai Chung, seated on the button, had other plans and raised it up to 5,000. Refusing to back down, Wang responded with a re-raise to 10,000.

Caught in the crossfire, Kimura looked visibly confused and frustrated before deciding to four-bet to 27,000. Unable to withstand the mounting pressure, Chung finally let go of his hand. But Wang wasn’t going anywhere—he shoved all-in, and Kimura snap-called, setting up a massive showdown.

Liu Falls Short of Bluffing Loy Out of Pot

The hand was already in motion with a classic clash of the blinds — Joel Loy in the small blind and Yuhang Liu in the big — battling on a flop of J♦ 7♥ 2♣ with about 12,000 in the pot.

Loy check-called Liu’s hefty 11,200 bet on the Q♣ turn. Unable to shake Loy off, Liu slowed down and checked the 4♠ river after Loy tapped the table.

First to show, Loy revealed J♥ 8♥ , and to his surprise and relief, Liu quietly mucked his hand.

Holding his breath, Smolka stood ready to eliminate and stack up— but the turn crushed his hopes when the K♣ landed, flipping the advantage to Yip.

The river 2♠ sealed it, sending the pot to Yip for a timely double-up.

No Treetops Here

Chi Fan Hsu was dreaming of a "chip and a chair" comeback — the kind made famous by the legendary Treetop Strauss (if you remember him). But as happens more often than not, this story would end in expected heartbreak.

Everyone folded to late position, where Ho Tak Lee opened to 1,600. In the big blind, with only 600 left behind, Hsu had no choice but to go all-in, putting his Main Event life on the line.

Tung Man Tam opened with 1,200 and got called by Vu Do Tien on the button and Ruei Liang in big blind. All three saw a flop of 7♠ 3♠ 8♦ .

With action checked, Tam continued with 5,000, enough to push Tien out of the way. But Liang decided to crank up the heat and raised to 7,500. Tam called.

The 5♣ turn saw Liang putting maximum pressure by betting 30,000 forcing Tam all-in. Hesitantly, Tam made the call putting himself at risk.

Best Hand of the Day: Not just a Flush but a Straight Flush

On a completed board of 7♥ J♦ T♦ 6♠ 9♦ and a pot of about 20,000. Yuri Murakami fired 11,000 from the button after Yu-Tung Liu checked.

He was taking his time to consider his options until finally he made the call and asked, "Flush?"

Murakami didn't reply but instead gave him the biggest sweet smile and wiggled her body happily as she tabled 8♦ 7♦ .

It wasn't just a flush but a straight flush. Liu had to smile and say, "Nice Hand!" despite being left with only half of starting stack.

Murakami, scooped the pot still giddy at possibly having the best hand of the day.

Three players saw the dealer spread out a flop of 9♦ 4♣ 5♦ . Both the blinds checked, prompting Wang to fire out a continuation-bet of 3,300. Ip pondered for quite some time before letting go of his hand, but Ke, instantly called to see a turn.

When the board-pairing 5♥ dropped on the turn Ke opted to lead out with a bet of 8,000. Wang looked over at Ke's remaining stack of roughly 28,000, before he did some inventory of his own. Eventually, he put in the call.

A seemingly meaningless 3♥ appeared on the river and Ke quickly led out again, this time for 15,000. Wang didn't hesitate to match her bet and was shown trips by Ke with 6♥ 5♠ . To the surprise of Ke, Wang flipped over A♣ 2♣ for a rivered straight, and the pot was sent to him.

Flight B of the APT Taipei 2025 Main Event Happens Today!

Get ready for another massive day of poker action! Flight B of the APT Taipei Main Event** kicks off today at 11:00 AM local time at The Red Space in Taipei, Taiwan. After an electric start yesterday with Flight A drawing 542 entries (404 unique) and 466 online qualifiers from Natural8, the event has already racked up an incredible 1,008 entries — with 203 players advancing to Day 2.

Today's players will battle through six levels that are 45-minutes in length, and then four 60-minute levels to end the day. Everyone will be armed with a starting stack of 40,000 chips. Late registration remains open throughout the day, up until the start of Day 2 on Wednesday, April 30. Players have the option to forfeit their stack to fire another bullet before the end of the registration period. Heads up: There’s no dinner break today — so fuel up early and get ready for non-stop action!

Yesterday, Wu Chun Yu from Taiwan set the bar high, bagging an impressive 469,200 chips to lead the pack. Will someone rise even higher today and steal the spotlight?
