Day 2 of the APPT National resumed at Okada Manila with 90 players back on the felt, each guaranteed a piece of the ₱18,333,000 prize pool and vying for one of the coveted Final 9 spots. By the twelfth round of play, the lineup was set, with Korea’s Youngtaek Lim leading the pack, bagging a commanding 5,075,000 (63 bb) stack which was 30 big blinds ahead of his nearest rival.

Lim was a dominant force throughout the day. Starting with the fourth largest stack, he surged to the top after eliminating Seiji Kikuoka in 28th place and maintained his lead. Despite the rise of players Ryan Gebow, Maxwell Rosete, Alvin Jeff Sembrano, not one would surpass. And as the field shrank to ten players, Lim leveraged his sizable stack to apply pressure on the short stacks, staying in control until the final table bubble burst.

The Final 9 players will return on July 27, 2025 for the last dash to the title and the ₱3,340,000 (~$58.8K) champion's purse.

After Edgar Asehan lost a showdown, he was left with just 95,000 which he tossed in with 4♣ 7♣ . Alvin Sembrano called from the big blind with J♠ 8♦ . Both players got a piece of the board 4♠ 3♣ J♥ with Sembrano way ahead. The turn A♣ and river 2♦ sealed the win and the end for Asehan in 10th place, just missing the final table.

The hunt for the final 9 players continues with two called shoves resulting in double ups. In a battle of the blinds, small blind Mac Mantos was all in for 295,000 holding A♥ 8♦ and won against big blind caller Edgar Asehan with K♥ 5♣ . The board was A♦ 6♠ Q♠ T♣ Q♣ .

At the other table, Maxwell Rosete three-bet shoved 540,000 and initial raiser Naohiro Arita called. Rosete was behind A♠ T♥ against Arita's A♦ J♦ until the flop 5♦ T♣ 2♣ gave him a pair which held through the runout 2♦ 9♠ .

One orbit after dropping on a failed bluff, Maxwell Rosete defended his big blind by calling a button raise. Rosete and Andoni Sanchez both checked the flop J♦ 5♥ 8♣ , then Sanchez bet 115,000 on the turn 2♥ . Rosete answered with a check-raise of 375,000, Sanchez flatted. On the river, it was back to checking. Rosete showed Q♥ 9♦ missed gutshot, Sanchez claimed the pot with 7♠ 8♠ pair.

Another check from Gebow and another bet from Rosete for a much larger 700,000. Still Gebow wanted to see and called. It was the right decision as Rosete flipped over K♥ 7♠ bluff, Gebow dragged in the pot with 8♥ 9♥ .

Gary Thompson Plunges Then Busts

Gary Thompson started the day very strong and seemed unstoppable as he eliminated players and racked up a massive lead. However, that's now in the past as he lost a majority of his stack to Alvin Jeff Sembrano then busted shortly after.

Sembrano opened the hand for 75,000 and Thompson defended on the big blind. At the flop 6♥ 8♥ J♣ , Sembrano continued for 85,000 then called Thompson's 220,000 raise. After they checked the turn 9♠ , the river 4♣ brought more chips to the middle. Following Thompson's check, Sembrano bet 650,000, Thompson tanked for two time-banks then called.

Sembrano flipped open 7♣ 5♣ straight, Thompson mucked. One orbit later, Thompson was back on the big blind and shoved with A♦ Q♦ . Marko Puskadija had A♥ K♥ . The board bricked. Thompson finished in 18th place.

90 Players Return For Day 2

Welcome to Day 2 of the APPT National taking place at the stunning Cove Manila inside the world-renowned Okada Manila resort. Over the past two days, the first APPT shard event drew 600 entries across three flights to push the prize pool to ₱18,333,000 (~USD 323K).

Today, 90 players return to the felt, each eyeing their share of the pot, but the size of their slice will depend on how far they can go. The minimum payout is ₱55,000 and at the very top is a massive ₱3,340,000 awaiting the champion. The mission for the day? To battle through the field and narrow it down to the final 9 players.

Leading in the pack is Francisco Mir Sanchez who bagged 646,000 which is 107 big blinds, based on the 3000-6000 blinds. Players will have more wiggle room to choose hands and size up the competition with blinds increasing every 40 minutes.
