Late Surge For Justin Ong To Bag The Chip Lead

After twelve intense levels of Day 2 action, the 2025 APPT Manila Main Event closed at Okada Manila with just 20 players left from the 232 that returned to the felt. Leading the charge was a familiar force in the series, Justin Ong, who championed the PokerStars Red Dragon champion several days ago. Backed by a big stack all day, Ong sealed the top spot in the closing hands by scooping a massive double up with the nuts, toppling former chip leader Youngtaek Lim in the process. Ong bagged 4,040,000 (80 bb).
Hot on his heels was another well-known name, 2024 APPT Cambodia champion Christopher Mateo, with 3,950,000 (79 bb). Mateo began Day 2 at the top of the counts and held the lead for the opening two levels before Lim surged ahead with a blistering run. Lim ended the day with 3,135,000 (62 bb), good for third in the chip ranks.
Day 2 was action packed from the get-go with nonstop shoves and busts leading to the fall of Finn Penderak on the bubble within the first hour. With the money secured, a continuous stream of eliminations followed among them was the defending champion Xiong Cheng in 128th place and 2025 APPT Cambodia champion Hai Ha Tran in 50th place.
The 2025 APPT Manila Main Event drew 1,246 entries at ₱80,000 apiece to build a massive ₱87,020,640 prize pool, the second largest in the tour’s history in the Philippines. Payouts began at 163rd place, but the lion’s share is still on the table, with ₱14,800,000 reserved for the eventual champion.
Stay tuned for the action when it resumes on August 4 at 1pm. For now, that's a wrap for Day 2. Somuchpoker will return for the final day to bring you fresh updates as it unfolds.

On The Spot With Isaac Galazan

Back in 2005, USA's Isaac Galazan entered his first ever WSOP event and won a bracelet. We caught up with him for a brief interview at APPT Manila Main Event:
How did you find out about APPT Manila?
I was contacted by them when they first started way back 18 years ago. This is my first time here in Okada Manila and so far so good.
What do you think about the growth of poker here in the Philippines since the last time you were here in 2010?
I mean, it grew a lot. When I first came here there was still a very good turnout, but it grew exponentially. Right now it's world class whereas before we used to play in garages and hotel rooms.
Can you share your story on how you won the WSOP Bracelet?
The WSOP that I won was actually the first time I entered the World Series Of Poker and it was the third time I ever played poker in a casino. Six months before that, I only played Short Deck and I never played with more than four or five players so once my friend knew that I am going to play in WSOP they said that i have to start playing with a full deck and learn how to play a full table. Three months before I won the WSOP Bracelet I went to Amsterdam and I entered the tournament for the first time in my life and I went second place and then on the way to Vegas, I stopped in LA and I entered another tournament and finished third place. The next day I entered the WSOP and won the WSOP Bracelet. That was my first three times in Poker Casino.
Galazan will be hunting for his first title in Asia. He bagged up a decent stack at Flight B. Check out his poker stats right here.
