Hai Ha Tran Claims Victory in APPT Cambodia Main Event for $155,225

After six hours of intense action, Hai Ha Tran emerged as the APPT Cambodia Main Event champion, securing $155,225. Tran reached this pinnacle after striking a deal with Somashekar Kurkhepally Nahadeva to split the prize evenly, with each player guaranteed the same cash reward. The deal left the trophy, APPT Championship Package, and the prestige of being crowned the APPT Champion to be fought for in the final hands.

Starting the day with just 41 big blinds, Tran navigated through a tough field of opponents, strategically choosing his spots and building his stack as the day progressed. His steady climb through the ranks culminated in a fast-paced heads-up battle against the formidable Nahadeva, which he won in just an hour.

“I feel very happy and excited to have won the APPT Cambodia Main Event,”

Reflecting on the key hand where he took the chip lead early in the day from Nahadeva with a set on the flop, Tran noted,

“I expected that Nahadeva was going to call on the flop because he was an active player. After that hand, I felt my strategy for the final table should be to aim for first place, and I was very confident I could take it down.”

Final Day Recap

The APPT Cambodia Main Event kicked off on May 8 at NagaWorld, drawing 643 entries across four flights. Following a fierce competition, 121 players advanced to Day 2, with payouts beginning at 95th place. By the end of Day 2, only 24 players were left standing, with each one aiming for a spot on Day 3. By the end of Day 3, just six players remained, each already guaranteed a cash prize of $38,840.

However, the real goal was the top prize of $191,000, along with the coveted trophy and title of APPT Champion. Leading the pack into the final day was Nahadeva, who entered with a commanding chip lead of 5,865,000 (73 BB).

Despite starting as the chip leader, Nahadeva found himself in a tough battle, with his stack steadily dwindling throughout the day. He faced several close calls that put his tournament life at risk.

Yuanning Wu, aiming for his second APPT Main Event title, entered the final day in a strong position with the second-largest chip stack of 3,895,000 (49 BB). However, his run was cut short in a brutal turn of events when his pocket kings were cracked by Tran’s ace-king, leading to his elimination in fifth place.

The elimination was a turning point in the momentum of the final table. Tran’s pivotal double-up not only shifted the dynamics but also fueled his rise toward the top of the chip counts. From that moment on, he continued to apply pressure, steadily chipping away at his opponents.

“It’s more important to see who I’m playing against and understand their playing style… Everyone has their own approach, and when I reached the final table, I wasn’t intimidated by any one player. I simply observed how they played, relied on my experience, and approached each hand by exploiting their individual styles. I just did my best."

Tran's chip stack grew, and before long, he found himself in a heated battle for the chip lead with Ngoc Minh Le. However, it was a pivotal hand where Nahadeva’s resilience turned the tide—crippling Le and ultimately eliminating him from the tournament to set up the heads-up battle.

The heads-up was quick but intense, with both Tran and Nahadeva assured of an equal cash prize. After just 27 hands, Tran’s strategy and composure saw him claim the trophy, the title, and the bragging rights as the APPT Cambodia Main Event Champion.

Nahadeva check-called Le's continuation bet of 200,000 on the 2♦ 5♠ 9♣ flop. Action slowed down with both players checking the 7♦ turn. On the 9♠ river, after Nahadeva checked again, Le tanked before deciding on a bet of 980,000, which was enough to force a fold and take down the pot.

Then Ngoc Minh Le raised to 200,000 and was called by Somashekar Kurkhepally Nahadeva in the big blind. After a check, Le made a continuation bet of 160,000 on the 7♣ A♥ 9♠ flop. Nahadeva called to see the A♦ turn, which both players checked.

Nahadeva bet 400,000 on the 2♣ river, and Le called Nahadea showed a busted gut-shot straight draw against Le's 9♥ 8♥.

There was no further action after that, with Le getting a walk, Tran Minh Thang failing to get callers with his all-in shove, and Nahadeva taking down the pot with no contest after a raise. He did it again when he shoved all-in on Thang, who had limped in from the small blind.
