– General Introduction –

Pete Yen Han Chen

Pete Yen Han Chen is a professional poker player from Taiwan, who was born in 1988.

He was awarded the Asia Player of the Year Title in 2014. In the past 11 years. his HendonMob profile counts over 300 cashes and over US$3.5 million in lifetime earnings. He has won one WSOP gold bracelet so far. He’s a prominent ambassador for Natural8-GGNetwork.

– Key Career Dates –

  • 2017: He finishes 2nd in the US$5,000 WSOP No Limit Hold’em event at the Rio in Las Vegas for US$382,122. That is the biggest single live tournament cash of his career to date.
  • 2021: He wins his first WSOP gold bracelet after finishing first in the US$400 No Limit Hold’em – Ultra Deepstack online event on WSOP.com

– Pete Yen Han Chen’s Career –

The first substantial cash of Pete Yen Han Chen’s career came in June 2013, when he picked up US$7,279 for 2nd place at an Asia Pacific Poker Tour (APPT) Macau side event. February 2014 saw him follow this up with 4th place at the Asia Championship of Poker (ACOP) Platinum Series Main Event, banking US$12,687 in the process. In May of the same year, the APPT Macau Main Event provided Chen with one of the biggest scores of his career: he took 5th place, and earned US$74,170 for his efforts. The Macau Poker Cup Red Dragon Series provided him with another large score in August, when he further cemented his place as an excellent live tournament player, winning US$63,353 for 4th place.

The next five-figure score for him didn’t arrive until May 2015, when Chen took another 4th place in an APPT side event for US$12,279. He quickly added another US$22,662 to his tally when he won an event at the ACOP Platinum Series in June. The same series provided his next big cash in July, when he finished 2nd in the Megastack event for US$10,135. The APPT Manila High Roller Eventin August saw Chen add another US$22,511 to his bankroll for finishing in 3rd place.

His biggest cash for the year 2016 was at the2016 Aussie MillionsNo Limit Holdem Shot Clock TurboEvent where he placed 2nd for US$20,108.

The year 2017 seemed to be the magical year for Chen. He started the year by placing 5th in the AUS$2,500 No Limit Hold’em Event at the 2017 Aussie Millions garnering a cash prize of US$22,792. This was followed a month after with a US$59,286 score by placing 6th in the No Limit Holdem High Roller Event at the Macau Poker Cup. In April, he once again made it to the final table of the PokerStars Championship Macau Main Event and finished 6th, taking home HK$705,000 (approx. US$90,712). Despite his efforts, somehow a trophy kept slipping through his hands. Until finally, in the same month at the WPT Beijing Inaugural Main Event, Chen stood alone raising his very first trophy aloft after besting a field of 400 entries. He also earned his very first 6-figure cash prize of US$299,485.

The same year, in June 2017, he came very close to capturing his first WSOP bracelet. He finished second in the US$5,000 No Limit Hold’em event, losing to Andres Korn from Argentina heads-up for the title at the end. Chen pocketed no less than US$382,122, which is the biggest single live tournament cash of his career to date.

The word to describe Chen’s achievements is “persistent”. And once in a while he tops the fields quietly and scoops home some titles. At EPT Barcelona in 2018, he won two Turbo side events for a total of around US$170,000.

The year 2019 also displayed a great number of final table finishes for Chen; as well as another “double-whammy”, taking down two events once again in the course of just a few days in Korea and Taiwan.

The start to 2020 was an impressive one with a deep run in the Aussie Millions Main Event and two runner-up finishes in APPT Taipei events, including one in the Main Event. In February 2020, he achieved yet another major result, winning two side events in a row at the WPT Philippines.

When the poker world went online during the corona crisis in early 2020, Chen showed he can also do it on the virtual felt. The Taiwanese pro took down the GGPoker Asian Poker Tour (APT) 2020 Online Series US$200 Mini Main Event $75K GTD for US$40,058.92 and the APT Guardian Trophy to add to his collection.

In October 2021, he managed to win an even more prestigious title for himself, his first WSOP gold bracelet. He took down the US$400 WSOP.com No-Limit Hold’em Ultra Deepstack online event for US$82,559.

In the same month, Chen also won the US$2,200 NLHE – Mystery Bounty event at The Wynn Las Vegas for US$289,193. The next month, in November 2021, he managed to make it into the money in the WSOP Main Event, eventually busting in 134th place for US$50,900.

Each year counts a staggering amount of cashes on HendonMob for Chen and it does not come as a surprise that he sits in 2nd place on the Taiwan All Time Money List, still quite a way from James Chen‘s top spot with over US$7.5 million in live tournament earnings.

Pete Chen was signed to become a Natural8-GGNetwork ambassador in July 2020.
